  We have had Whirlpool washers and dryers for 30 years. We spent over $1000 on our new one expecting the same great service, but instead have had it 9 months and it has been out of service twice, for a total of 6 weeks. When I tried to talk to whirlpool about the poor performance of the washer, they just want to sell me an over-priced extended warranty. What a dissapointment in what used to be a great company.

  I was worried but this washer is pretty cool. The kids even like to watch the wash cycle start since the lid is glass and the blue light is cool too. No complaints here!

  For $950 I paid for this in 2007 should had last me at least 8 yrs but not even 3 yrs. I will recommend not buy this whirlpool washer.

  Since I wrote this review I have called Whirlpool and bought a replacement part. Full retail price -- about $150 plus tax plus shipping -- for something cost about $4.00 to make. You wait about half an half to speak to someone and then no technical advice is available. If this repair doesn't do the trick, I am junking this thing. I can buy a new machine as cheaply as getting it repaired. Does anybody know a machine where the company provides reasonable support to the door-it-yourselfer or handyman?

  I have had Whirlpool washer and dryers for over 35 years (3 sets) with satisfactory results. I bought the 7800 washer despite some poor ratings relying more on my past experience with Whirlpool. The washer simply does not thoroughly clean. Chocolate ice cream stain on white shirt did not come out. On some loads, unless you indicate 2nd rinse, clothes still had soap in them. After a load completed, I ran it again without adding soap and the suds produced the 2nd time were as much as the 1st. Am using appropriate HE detergent. Would not recommend this product, it is below average performer maybe worse.

  This appears to be the most expensive top loader. We got it because it handles huge huge amounts of laundry and it fits into our small laundry area (unlike the side loaders). Our first one had a lot of problems from day one. Loud squeaks, and a finger print INSIDE of the "minutes left" display. On a brand new high end machine that is really unacceptable (they came out 4 times to fix the loud squeak but never could). I did not buy this on Amazon I got mine at a local place and I kept calling and bugging the manager until he gave in and switched out my lemon for a good one. Ask yourself the question "will the place I am buying this from REPLACE it if I get a lemon" because our lemon could not be fixed, it had to be replaced. Once we got a good one it turned out to be just an amazing machine, very low energy use and thoroughly cleans huge amounts of laundry. Also very quiet (once we got a machine without a squeak).
